Easter 2024

The absolute joy we experience on Easter with the resurrection of Jesus Christ is never more fully felt than when we experience the sorrow and pain Jesus suffered during the events leading up to that glorious Sunday. Holy Week begins with the exuberance of Palm Sunday and quickly changes to the somber reality of Good Friday. At Christ the King, we follow Jesus on His journey from His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to the Last Supper of Maundy Thursday, to the despair and isolation of Good Friday, and, finally, to the amazing wonder of Easter Sunday.

We invite you to worship with us at any or all of our Holy Week and Easter services as described below. Let us know you are coming by clicking here and Plan Your Visit. We'll be waiting to welcome you.

Maundy Thursdsay 2

Maundy Thursday

“Maundy” means “commandment” and it was on this day of Holy Week that Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper, breaking bread and sharing wine with His disciples at His Last Supper before He was condemned to death, commanding them to love one another even as the world turns against them. The altar is stripped of all linens and the cross is draped in black to signify Jesus’ coming humiliation at this 7:00pm service on March 28. Plan your visit here.

Good Friday 2

Good Friday

In this traditional Tenebrae service at 7:00pm on March 29, the sanctuary becomes enveloped in increasing darkness. String instruments and somber choral anthems underscore the despair experienced by Jesus as He hung on the cross. The service ends with the “strepitus,” a loud sound signifying the closing of the tomb. The congregation leaves in silence, reflecting on the love that was manifested in Jesus’ sacrificial death and looking with hope to the miracle of Easter. Easter 4

Easter Sunday

He is risen! Alleluia! On March 31, trumpets will sound as we celebrate our Risen Lord at 7:00am, 8:30am, and 11:00am with beautiful music, strongly proclaimed Word of God, and always an engaging children’s message. We celebrate God’s promise of eternal life that we can claim as our own through Jesus’ resurrection. Enjoy fellowship at breakfast served beginning at 9:45 in the Fellowship Hall. We would love to greet you! Click here to let us know you are coming to celebrate with us.
